Here are a few awesome examples of what we trying to accomplish. One of our major components will be a 10ft wide center median that will be installed on Sunday Nov 4th and remain in place all week. On Friday and Saturday we will be installing trees in the median as well! We will also be temporarily restriping the traffics lines and adding  new bike lanes as well. Also shown is an example of streetside seating and a bike rack that we will be simulating. Stay tuned for more examples of other components of the design!

Yours truly, giving a presentation on our Better Block project back in June - the clip only now got over to me.

A Curious Citizen: Jason Roberts

A video well, well worth watching! Part of me thinks Jason Roberts’ enthusiasm and point of view could be the rough mission statement for future The Curious City urban intervention projects. He is doing exciting, inspiring things in Oak Cliff, Dallas, and other American cities victim to sprawl and a lack of public spaces — this is his advice:

  1. Show up! No one ever shows up and if you keep doing this, you will accomplish whatever you set out to do.
  2. Be present and there for your community
  3. Give your project a name! Make fancy logos!
  4. Set a date and publish it! It makes you commit to a short timeframe.

If more of us took this kind of initiative the American city would be redefined in no time.
